Ring Definition

Overview

The concept of Rings of Care as been used in the Care Analytics app to both present data and also within the underlying analysis. The Rings of Care broadly represent level of needs of service users in six key levels from Residential and Nursing care at the high end and Information and Advice at the low end of need.

This concept has been adopted primarily because:

  • Its easy to communicate to both technical and non technical audience

  • It is useful at technical/analytical level because it reduces the dimension of analysis

The six primary rings are defined as follows:

Ring 1 - IAA [Self / Family / community advice / information]

Ring 2 - Advice and Assistance [Community meals, telecare, lifeline plus service users with specific key workers associated with, for example: adaptation, equipment, Bron Afon, Carers Support, Community Connectors, Extra Care, Section 117, Sensory Impaired]

Ring 3 - 1-14hrs Domiciliary or Day Activities Care, or Direct Payments

Ring 4 - 14-28hrs Domiciliary or Day Activities Care

Ring 5 - 28hrs+ Domiciliary or Day Activities Care

Ring 6 - Residential, Respite and Nursing Care

In addition, three further rings are used within the app to capture service users that don't fall into the above rings as follows:

  • Deceased [including those whose referrals are pending closure]
  • Referral closed [including those whose referrals are pending closure]
  • Other - Has a care need or service that doesn't fit into the primary six rings (e.g. Adult Placement, Supported Living)
